Rebellion is nigh in Matilda JR., a gleefully witty ode to the the anarchy of childhood and the power of imagination! This story of a girl who dreams of a better life and the children she inspires will have audiences rooting for the "revolting children" who are out to teach the grown-ups a lesson.

Matilda has astonishing wit, intelligence... and special powers! She's unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, the highly loveable Miss Honey. Matilda's school life isn't completely smooth sailing, however – the school's mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves thinking up new punishments for those who don't abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts, and could be the school pupils' saving grace!

Packed with high-energy dance numbers and catchy songs, Matilda Jr. is a joyous romp. Children and adults alike will be thrilled and delighted by the story of the special little girl with an extraordinary imagination.

For one big performance only, Thames Music Theatre is collaborating with the superb 70-piece Thames Youth Orchestra on this huge project in a stunning 800-seater venue, where we will bring to life various stories through the medium of music, drama, dance and song!

The programme will take us on an adventure as we tell stories through music, and we are treated to various self-contained musical and music theatre pieces.

Amongst the works will be these two major dramatic presentations, both as staged works:

Howard Goodall: The Selfish Giant, in its first-ever presentation as a staged work PREMIERE
Sergei Prokofiev: the extremely well-known and much-loved Peter and the Wolf

There will also be other wonderful music from screen and concert-hall, and brand new, exciting and entertaining musical drama works composed specially for this event, massed voices and a huge orchestra!

The music is all extremely colourful, very engaging, wonderfully enjoyable and highly accessible, predominantly drawn from theatre and film/TV idioms.
